Fire-resistant Paper Successfully Synthesized Fireproof Paper

There is a common saying that paper can't hold fire. It can be seen that paper is flammable. However, Shanghai scientists invented a kind of “fire-resistant paper”. Experiments have confirmed that such paper can withstand high temperatures of over a thousand degrees Celsius. According to reports, this “fire-resistant paper” was successfully developed by the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which took six years to complete. The result was also published in “European Chemistry”.

Fireproof paper has many uses Compared with ordinary paper, the production principle of "refractory paper" is similar, but the production materials are different. It not only can be used as a permanent and secure information storage medium to store important texts, documents, files, etc. for a long time, but also can be used as a regenerable adsorbent, controlled-release carrier, bone defect repair material, and medical treatment for effective removal of organic pollutants from wastewater. Paper, fire-retardant materials and high-temperature materials.
Zhu Yingjie, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, said: "Hydroxyapatite is a natural mineral. It is the main inorganic component of vertebrate bones and teeth. It has excellent biocompatibility and environmental friendliness. The white color, which has the excellent characteristics of long-term storage and easy discoloration, is conducive to the long-term preservation of paper documents. However, hydroxyapatite also has its drawbacks - high brittleness and low toughness.
Through repeated experiments, Zhu Yingjie’s research team finally found a new method of preparation: using calcium oleate as a precursor to prepare ultra-long hydroxyapatite nanowires that can be precisely regulated, and used it as a building material for new types of paper. The hydroxyapatite "fire-resistant paper" was prepared using a simple vacuum filtration technique.
At present, this kind of highly flexible hydroxyapatite "refractory paper" is still limited to laboratory-scale preparation, but in the future if it can achieve large-scale production and use, Zhu Yingjie believes that it can not only drastically reduce human to traditional plant fibers. The dependence of plain paper can also reduce environmental pollution to a certain extent, so as to benefit future generations.
