· Mercedes-Benz invested 120 million US dollars in building a car battery factory in Thailand

Lithium batteries are one of the most important components for electric vehicle manufacturers. Therefore, each manufacturer has adopted a different approach in order to ensure the battery supply of electric vehicles. According to foreign media reports, today, Mercedes-Benz announced that it will invest 100 million euros (about 120 million US dollars) in Thailand to build a new factory dedicated to the production of automotive lithium battery components.
The plan is part of Mercedes-Benz's recently announced electric vehicle production plan, which includes six new plants and a “global battery network”. The "Global Battery Network" program includes cooperation with a number of suppliers, the latest supplier member is Thailand's TAAP company. The investment plan of the Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler is to expand the current battery production equipment in Bangkok and fund the construction of a new plant.
Markus Schafer, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Production and Supply Chain Management Committee, said in a statement: "In the flexible and efficient Mercedes-Benz global production network, the development of electric vehicles has made good progress and is very fast. As part of our strategy, the company is working with partner TAAP to prepare for the future. With our highly standardized and scalable battery production concept, it is possible to start producing any size battery pack at any time and in any time and within a short period of time."
Mercedes-Benz said that in addition to meeting local production needs in Thailand, the plant will also export to other markets. This round of new investment will begin next year, when Mercedes-Benz will launch a new EQ electric car sub-brand. As previously reported in the media, Daimler has a very active electrification strategy among traditional car manufacturers.
The company plans to introduce electric models for all Mercedes-Benz and Smart-branded cars by 2022. Mercedes-Benz will also implement a wider range of electric vehicle products plans from next year, including the first EQC pure electric SUV will also meet users in the EQ series. At present, several auto manufacturers are trying to guarantee their own electric vehicle production progress in different ways. Among them, Tesla and Panasonic have reached a close cooperative relationship, and the two sides jointly produce car batteries in the super battery factory in Nevada. In addition, Volkswagen just announced this week that it has signed a $20 billion battery supply contract.
