“As China’s local auto market expands rapidly, the time for the large-scale export of Chinese autos has matured in the future.†At the recent China High-Tech Summit on Light Trucks and Scientific Development for 50 Years, Zhang Xiaokai, Chairman of the China Association of Automotive Engineers, analyzed Chinese autos Industrial export prospects. He believes that none of the major auto exporters have been able to support the large domestic market. The proportion of self-owned brands in China's light truck industry is as high as 95%, and the scale is also more than one million. In recent years, with the rapid development of the automobile industry and the supportive policies of the state to encourage the export of automotive products, China's auto vehicle exports have maintained a high growth rate for four consecutive years. According to the latest customs statistics, in 2007, China exported 193,000 light trucks of less than 5 tons, which accounted for 77.8% of the export volume of trucks, and accounted for nearly 1/3 of the total exports of automobiles.
Light trucks, as the main force for the export of domestic cars, have shown a good export trend in recent years. In 2005, Yuejin signed an agreement to export 200 million U.S. dollars to Russia, setting a record for the largest export of light trucks. In October of the same year, Dongfeng signed another 6,000 light truck export orders at the ASEAN Expo. In November of last year, Foton Ao Ling signed 3,000 European exports. Large bills set the highest single export volume of light trucks in China. Zhang Xiaolu believes that when it comes to light truck exports, there are two major issues that must be mentioned. First, the Yuejin brand incorporates Nanjing Iveco, and has directly obtained Iveco's perfect overseas marketing network; Second, Foton Motors is located in Russia, Indonesia, Iran, and the Philippines.
