US petrochemical industry will recover slowly

According to the latest US petrochemical industry report released by BMI, the current petrochemical industry in the United States is recovering, but the recovery rate is relatively slow. It will not be until 2013 to return to the level of 2008. In the long run, it will come from Asia and the Middle East. As regional competition intensifies, the US petrochemical production capacity will be curbed.

In 2009, the output of major plastic resin products in the United States was 36.2 million tons, a slight increase of 0.9% from 2008. Sales volume of low-density polyethylene decreased by 5.7% year-on-year to 3.06 million tons, sales volume of polystyrene decreased by 7.3% year-on-year to 2.45 million tons, polypropylene production decreased by 2.8% from the same period last year to 7.6 million tons, and PVC production decreased by 1.3% year-on-year. To 5.8 million tons, the production of linear low-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene rose by 4.2% year-on-year and 1.1%, respectively, to 5.86 million tons and 7.72 million tons.

BMI predicts that the output of US petrochemical products will increase by 9% this year, but the rebound rate will slow in 2011 and 2012.
