In terms of electric vehicle technology, China has now established a proprietary hybrid, pure electric, fuel cell, and power system technology platform with independent intellectual property rights and applicable to the public transport and private automobile markets, forming the largest international electric car component. The industry has formed 35 technical standards and has the capability of testing battery, motor, vehicle and technical facilities.

In 2009, the central government's subsidy for new energy in China's public transportation system reached 1 billion yuan, which in turn led social capital, especially private capital, to invest 8.5 billion yuan in large-scale production of motors and batteries. It is estimated that the output of new energy vehicles in China will reach 150,000 in 2010, which creates favorable conditions for the government to further promote the demonstration and promotion of new energy vehicles and expand the application market of electric vehicles.

Wan Gang believes that currently China has become the world’s largest automobile production and consumption country, but it is still in its infancy in terms of the popularity of automobiles. Automobile consumption will maintain its rapid growth momentum for a long period of time in the future. He said that in the next five years of science and technology plans, it will further increase investment in R&D of electric vehicles and continue to support and lead the development of electric vehicles in China.
