The reporter learned from the China Coatings Industry Association on August 18th that on the 2011 “World's Top Coating Companies Rankings” recently published by “Paint World” Magazine, Garbo Li and Shanghai Coatings have successfully ranked among the top 50 global paint companies. It rewrites the history of no Chinese company entering the world's top 50 coatings.

The world's top coating company rankings published annually by Coating World can be called the world's paint industry's ancestral spectrum and barometer. It has considerable credibility and authority in the industry. In 2011, the threshold of the world's top paint companies increased to more than US$100 million in corporate sales in the previous year, and there were only 86 companies in the world. The ranking shows that Akzo Nobel in the Netherlands continues to occupy the first place with sales of US$13.0 billion. The top ten companies are PPG, Henkel, Sherwin, DuPont, BASF, Lippa, Valspar. Kansai and Nippon.

Chinese company Garbo Lily ranked 41st with US$311 million in sales, and Shanghai Coatings ranked 49th with US$255 million in sales. The Chinese companies that entered the top global paint list in 2011 were Taiwan Yongji Paint and Yip Chemical, ranking 62nd and 70th respectively with US$187m and US$165m.

After years of development, by the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, China has become the world's largest paint producing and consuming country, but it lacks a brand that has an influence in the international market. China National Coatings Industry Association Secretary-General Yang Yuande said in an interview with reporters that a group of domestic companies have entered the top global paint companies list, and that Garbo and Shanghai Coatings are among the world's top 50 paint suppliers for the first time, helping the world to understand Chinese paint companies. To promote domestic coatings to go abroad and take the road of internationalization and grouping. At the same time, it should be noted that at present, the proportion of domestic paint exports in domestic paint production is less than 3%, and the low-end products and Southeast Asian markets are the main products. To this end, Yang Yuande suggested that the domestic paint industry should continue to exert its force in strengthening international talent training and improving scientific and technological innovation capabilities, further narrowing the gap with foreign countries, catching up with international advanced level, and accelerating China's transition from being a paint major nation to a paint power country.

Xu Youwei, executive deputy general manager of Garbo Group, stated that this list is recognized by international authoritative organizations on the strength of Garbo, and is also a major event in China's coatings industry, indicating that the gap between the Chinese coatings industry and the world advanced level is further Zoom out. However, as far as a single enterprise is concerned, the share of Chinese companies in the domestic market is still quite limited, which is far less than the market share of Indian Asian painters and South Korea's Korea Chemicals companies in their home countries. Garboli hopes to rank among the world's top 30 or even the top 20 coatings in the next 5 to 10 years.
