· January car recall surged 597% year-on-year

In 2016, China’s auto recall exceeded 10 million vehicles for the first time, indicating the maturity of China’s auto recall system. This year’s auto recall is more “positive”. The Economic Observer Online reporter reviewed the announcement of the AQSIQ on the recall of automobiles and found that the recall of the car in the first two months of this year (ending February 21) showed a spurt growth.
According to the statistics of the reporters, in January last year, seven brands including Volvo, Chrysler, Geely, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen were recalled, involving 84,399 vehicles. In January of this year, more than 20 brands including Lincoln, Kellersler, SAIC Volkswagen, Subaru, Volvo and so on were recalled, involving 588,126 vehicles, a surge of 597% over the same period last year.
Taking into account the Spring Festival factor, the time was extended to February 21, and 556,744 vehicles were recalled last year, and the number of recalls this year still more than doubled. A total of 1,129,177 vehicles were recalled in the first two months of this year until February 21, an increase of 102.8% over the same period last year.
"In addition to normal processing, companies may be avoiding the blacklist on the 3.15 Consumer Rights Day," said an automotive industry analyst. In 2016, on the eve of March 15th, many car companies chose to take the initiative to avoid being "exposure".
Judging from the recalls in the first two months of this year, the recalls are focused on airbags and seat belts, seat belt engines, suspensions, powertrains, etc., but this year's corporate recalls are clearly more positive. For example, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors Co., Ltd. recalled some KX5 cars and Beijing Hyundai Tucson. The reason is that the rear traction arm may bend, and may break after long-term use, which poses a safety hazard. However, the total number of complaints between the two is no more than five. The two companies have recalled more than 100,000 vehicles for this purpose.
Other brands have also taken the initiative to recall. For example, some models of Maserati are recalled because of the possibility of a sudden flameout in the engine, which poses a safety hazard. Volvo is affected by airbags, which indicate that one or more airbags may not deploy properly when a vehicle collides.
However, some models recalled “not painful”. For example, Lincoln’s recall was due to the fact that the seat belt could not fully restrain the occupants, increased the risk of injury to the occupants, and there were safety risks. Lincoln proposed a solution. However, problems such as abnormal engine noise and steering column electronic modules that had been complained before were not addressed.
There are also some new changes this year, such as the establishment of a parallel import vehicle recall system. Dinghe (Tianjin) Import and Export Co., Ltd., a parallel importer of Tianjin Automobile, recently filed a recall plan with the AQSIQ and recalled its 2014 imported BMW X5 off-road vehicle, which was the first to be implemented in the domestic parallel import pilot enterprises. Recall obligation. This is the first time in the industry.
China has implemented the recall system for defective automobile products since 2004, and it has been 12 years since. As of December 25, 2016, the cumulative number of defective car recalls was 1,295, involving 36.68 million vehicles. Since the promulgation and implementation of the “Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Products Recall” in 2013, the number of vehicle recalls has increased significantly. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, it exceeded 5 million vehicles for three consecutive years. In 2016, it exceeded 10 million vehicles for the first time, reaching 11.325 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase. 103%, a record high.
The AQSIQ report shows that the 2016 defective car recall work has the following three characteristics:
First, the number of recalls exceeded the 10 million mark for the first time in a year. From the number of recalls, from 2004 to 2013, the cumulative number of recalls reached 10 million vehicles in 9 years; from 2014 to 2015, the cumulative number of recalls in two years reached 10 million; in 2016, only one year, the number of recalls It has exceeded 10 million vehicles.
Second, the problem of defects that caused the recall was more concentrated. Judging from the defects involved in the recall, the top three recalls were: the recall of airbags and seat belts 64 times, the largest number involved, with 6,340,200 vehicles; the second was the recall of 28 engine problems involving 2,401,800 vehicles. Again, the body problem was recalled 29 times, involving 851,900 units, ranking third.
Third, the effect of protecting consumer rights is more obvious. According to incomplete statistics, as of 2016, the direct economic cost of the recalls of various automobile manufacturers in the country to eliminate vehicle defects exceeds 21 billion yuan, which eliminates a large number of safety hazards for consumers and is also equivalent to preventing consumers. More than 21 billion yuan in economic losses have effectively protected the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
