It is reported that ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, will provide hardware and software products and technical support for the two multi-purpose diving support vessels built by China Merchants Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. to help them safely carry out construction and maintenance operations under 5,000 meters under the sea. ABB's OCTOPUS monitoring software uses sensor and object, service and human interconnection technologies to resolve meteorological conditions to ensure that crew members make the right decisions in sensitive operating environments.
The owners of the two multi-purpose diving support vessels are Singapore's Ultra Deep Solutions (UDS). The largest of them is 142 meters long and will be equipped with two remote submersibles that can dive to 3,000 meters deep and a 400-ton crane that can work at a depth of 5,200 meters.
It is understood that as a powerful marine application software, OCTOPUS can provide decision support and operational advice for weather-impacting offshore operations vessels by monitoring and predicting ship operations. In deep water operations without mooring and lower anchorage, the software will play an important predictive function, allowing the ship to determine the best working time when performing weather-sensitive dynamic positioning operations. In addition, ABB will provide electric propulsion systems including generators, switchboards, propulsion inverters and electric motors for these multi-purpose submersible support vessels.
Juha Koskela, global head of ABB's ship and port business, said: “This time we offer our customers a wide range of technologies and products that reflect ABB's comprehensive product portfolio and solutions in the marine industry. These multi-purpose diving support vessels will Benefit from the most mature software and hardware technologies in the marine industry."
Jithu Sukumaran Nair, General Manager of the UDS Shipbuilding Division, said: "We are very proud to be the first operator in the world to install the OCTOPUS weather monitoring system on a high-tech diving support vessel."
ABB has consistently provided the most comprehensive marine software and optimization system for the global marine market. Its performance management solutions include decision support tools OCTOPUS and Emma Consulting Suite to minimize fuel and energy costs for the entire fleet.
UDS is an expert in the design, construction and operation of world-class ultra-deep water heavy construction vessels in the marine industry. With its extensive onshore and offshore expertise, UDS provides customers with the world's highest standards of marine services, expertise and operational support.
ABB is a global leader in power and automation technology, helping customers in the power, industrial, transportation and infrastructure sectors improve their performance while reducing their environmental impact.
